• This is the transcript of a speech by Mrs Elliot. Mrs Elliot was speaking
   at the opening of ‘Reading: the future’, a forum on reading and literacy-related activities.
   She is a retired teacher-librarian.
• Two slides used by the speaker during her presentation are also shown.
• The audience included teachers, librarians and senior school students from local schools.
